I’m Al Kramer (R. Allan Kramer), and I’ve been seriously interested in
photography since 1954, when I was 12, at summer camp and saw a friend
do magic in a makeshift closet darkroom. The next year I saved my lunch
money for my first 35 mm. I was photo editor of my high school yearbook,
army photographer, got a BFA in photography, worked as a commercial
photographer in Los Angeles, taught photography (briefly) for the L.A.
Dept. of Parks & Recreation, and did old-fashioned portraits in Eureka
Springs, Arkansas (the business I started, “The Imagery” is still in
operation).
After moving to New Orleans in 1977 I no longer had the money and space
for a darkroom, but never stopped taking pictures. When digital
photography came out, seeing at last a chance to once again see my
photographs from visualization to print myself, I bought my first
digital camera. That was in 1998, and after spending the last 6 years
honing my digital skills, I decided to retire from nursing in September,
2004 and concentrate my time on my first love - photography, and my
family, Jean, our son Joe, my Mom Ruth, and our growing menagerie of pets.
I hope you enjoy these photos. These are a very small selection of my
portfolio, and if you are interested in seeing more of a particular
type, please contact me by using the form at left.
